Giving Thanks for Homeownership

Fall is undeniably a beautiful season in the state of Tennessee, nestled within the best country in the world. Despite the inevitable bumps, bruises, mistakes and corrections we encounter in life, I’m thankful to call this nation my home.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving next week, let’s review home ownership, its benefits, challenges and how truly blessed we are to be able to purchase a home that is ours to decorate, live in, change, add onto, and yes, pay the mortgage. But, it's ours and that mortgage gains us value over time, building equity. Our own equity in our own home, on our own piece of land in the USA.

Owning that first home can seem challenging, especially in today’s market. It’s true. It can seem daunting to get into that home. Looking in the rearview mirror of history, it has always been a challenge to get that proverbial “foot in the door” for that first home.

Fortunately, we don’t have to go through the physical challenges the settlers faced or sacrifice to cross this great land when there were no roads, or even trains yet. We don’t have to figure out how to build it ourselves and survive with no supplies but what we could produce. We may face some challenges, but it’s nothing compared to those who came before us.

Today’s challenges are different in nature and can seem stressful, but we’re much further ahead in obtaining the dream of owning our own home than in past decades and generations.

You have more assistance programs available for first-time buyers, so you don’t have to stake out your property and live on it for 5 years, build a home, and hope you survive. It’s not quite that difficult, thank goodness! Find out which one will work best for you.

There are professionals who work exclusively in the industry of real estate to guide you through the process from start to finish, so you can make educated decisions, in your home purchase.

You can own your own home and actually, easier than those who came before us. The American Dream is alive and well.

No matter if you celebrate Thanksgiving on a grand scale, or quietly, let’s be thankful for just a moment for the opportunity provided here to own our own piece of this great land. Happy Thanksgiving all!
