Gratitude: Realtors Give Back

Most people think of Realtors as “Sellers of Homes.” They don’t realize that we are entrenched in the community and serve in a variety of ways. Yes, you may see their name on shopping carts or billboards, their signs in yards, and even on the side of their cars and license plates. Some offer first-time homebuyer classes or goodies at open houses, all to grow their business.

But most Realtors also choose local service options for their marketing budget: sponsoring a softball or cross-country team, hosting community fairs or festivals, or contributing to a community park.

You’ll also find Realtors serving on nonprofit boards and committees all over our city, as well as contributing time to Homeowners Associations, volunteering in classrooms or animal shelters, and for community service projects in shelters and greenways.

Realtors are at the Chamber of Commerce and council meetings, or neighborhood hearings, listening and contributing to those conversations. Realtors are focused on preserving what is good while making accommodation for the influx of new residents and businesses.

Realtors also contribute in and around the community to charitable causes. The Realtor Relief Fund is a powerful example, where every penny generated is used to support disaster relief efforts all over our country. Realtors contribute financially and physically build Habitat houses. Our association is a Pencil Partner with H.G. Hill Middle School, where every classroom is sponsored and provided with much-needed supplies.

More than one-third of our Realtors also invest in a nonpartisan PAC: political investments in candidates and key legislation focused on preserving property rights, taxes, and fair housing. Realtor Political Action Committee (RPAC) is a real example of how to successfully build relationships on both sides of the political aisle. They fulfill calls to action when key legislation is being voted on, sending information to decision-makers to help them vote wisely on behalf of our communities.

As President of Greater Nashville Realtors this year, I’ve witnessed extraordinary generosity by my fellow Realtors. At this time of Thanksgiving, I thought it fitting to share a small portion of what we give, and to express my heartfelt gratitude. Thank you to every Realtor who makes our city and communities better, you are so much more than “Sellers of Homes!”
