Commercial Forum (formerly Commercial Committee)

2025 Chair: Elizabeth Gatlin

Purpose:

To serve as a supplement to the services of the Greater Nashville REALTORS® in upgrading professional business practices and standards in commercial and investment real estate brokerage through ongoing education and communication.

• To unite REALTORS® engaged in buying, selling, renting or leasing for others the lands, buildings and other facilities involved in the commercial and investment real estate business.
• To facilitate communication and relationships with commercial and residential REALTORS®.
• To foster knowledge, education, and integrity in the fields of commercial and investment real estate business.
• To encourage networking relating to the practice of commercial and investment brokerage among the members of the Commercial Committee through quarterly committee meetings, commercial forums and/or other sponsored events.

2025 Objectives: Determine the most effective manner of engaging commercial agents and discuss the need for and role of this committee in their engagement.

Meeting Schedule: Quarterly Meetings & Three Commercial Forums

Member expectations: Attend meetings and give input when appropriate. Committee members will receive 1 Awards of Excellence Involvement credit for each meeting or forum that they attend.

Sample goal: Discover new continuing education opportunities for the Association to offer about Commercial Real Estate

Housing Access Forum (formerly Housing Opportunities & Affordability Committee)

2025 Chair: Shawanda Dotson-Crawford

Purpose:

• Identify and collaborate with community partners leading the affordable housing discussion, and promote the association’s commitment to housing access and affordability alongside those partners.
• Encourage cooperation with governmental agencies that have the responsibilities of promulgation and enforcement of Fair Housing Laws to insure equal opportunity for all people.
• Inform association members of their obligations and opportunities under Equal Opportunity and Fair Housing Laws and provide programs of information and education to the members.
• In conjunction with the Legislative Committee, ensure that the policies and laws passed by local governments resonate with the Association’s Strategic Plan and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion values and visions.

Meeting Schedule: Four total meetings per year, held quarterly; consisting of 2 forum-style meetings with guest speakers, 1 field trip in conjunction with a local housing partner group and 1 volunteer opportunity

Member expectations: Attend meetings and bring and discuss opportunities to advance Greater Nashville REALTORS® strategic plan in regards to housing opportunities and affordability. Committee members will receive 1 Awards of Excellence Involvement credit for each meeting, forum or event that they attend.

Sample goals: Collaborate with the Professional Development Committee to educate members on important entry market programs (first time homebuyer programs, etc.); collaborate with the Government Affairs & Policy Committee on affordable housing policy concerns

Accomplishments: Partnered with Dream Streets who has launched their Housing Grant Pilot Program to support housing burdened families with supplemental rental assistance and financial literacy skills to move these families towards greater financial stability and home ownership. Members of this committee participated in this program as mentors. This committee has utilized NAR Placemaking Grants in past years to improve various public areas around Nashville.

Legislative & Local Government Forum

2025 Forum Chair: Mark Sharp

Purpose:

• The forum is an opportunity to educate members on the workings of government (all three levels with a focus on local), planning, codes, etc…  
• The forum serves as a training platform for agents interested in moving up to the Government Affairs & Policy Committee.
• The forum serves as an incubator for REALTOR® members to bring forth ideas for local housing and zoning policy that align with our strategic plan.  
• Legislative training/education for REALTORS®
• Engagement with guest panels that represent regional initiatives
• Provide information on boards and appointments through the Mayor’s office such as BZA, Equalization, Sports Authority etc. and how members can engage on those boards

Leadership/ Makeup:

• Forum held quarterly, and is planned and executed by Forum Chair & Vice Chair, appointed by the President and President-Elect.
• Attendance by Government Affairs and Policy Committee members is highly recommended.
• Members on the forum are expected to attend 75% of the annual forum sessions.
• Forums will be scheduled for 1.5 hours.
