Every September, Greater Nashville REALTORS®, alongside the National Association of REALTORS®, recognizes Realtor Safety Month to raise awareness about the risks real estate professionals face in their daily work.
With nearly 6,700 members across Middle Tennessee, we take safety seriously and acknowledge that being a Realtor comes with unique challenges. Realtors are constantly on the move—meeting prospective clients, hosting open houses, and showing properties—often with people they’ve never met before.
Unfortunately, unsafe situations do occur. Here in Nashville, one of our members was approached at gunpoint in 2021 while preparing for a showing. His car was stolen, and he was left with a lasting memory that underscores the importance of vigilance in this profession.
Because real estate often requires meeting people in empty homes or unfamiliar areas, Realtors must take proactive steps to protect themselves. From verifying a client’s identity before meeting, to scheduling initial interactions in public places, to using safety tools and apps, these precautions are not optional—they are essential.
Realtors must remember that safety is not only about protecting themselves in the moment. It is about ensuring they can always return home to their families. When Realtors are safe, they are also able to perform their jobs more effectively—providing the best possible service to their clients and helping more people achieve the dream of homeownership.
That is why Realtor safety is not just an individual responsibility but a collective priority for our entire industry. This month and every month, we encourage all Realtors to take the necessary steps to stay safe, enabling them to continue building stronger communities through their work.
