Whether we realize it or not, we are often looked at as leaders in our communities. Realtors are not only up-to-date on what is happening in the housing market, but we are also plugging into news about the local economy, and if you're involved with RPAC you are actively working to advance public policies, protect property interests and promote a vibrant business environment. In today's political climate and with the NAR Settlement, it is important now more than ever, to exhibit leadership in your role.
Facts vs. Opinion
While social media was initially a place to connect and get social, it has now become another platform for marketing your business - which boils down to marketing you! Consider what you say and post online before you do it. Are you sharing facts? Opinions? If you are sharing facts, share your sources. When possible, try to have the facts outnumber the opinions shared with your social media audience. This also applies to conversation.
Be Curious
Before reacting to something you read, see, or hear - slow your thinking and consider your viewpoint. Are there any biases you might have? Have you done your own research on the topic? Are there any outside influences that could be impacting your thought process? If in conversation with another person, ask open-ended questions for more clarity and positive dialogue. As the 2018 Greater Nashville REALTORS® Past President 2018 and 2023 TN REALTORS® Past President Sher Powers once said to me, "Listen as if you could be wrong.”
If you are looking for ways to improve your leadership skills, the 2025 Greater Nashville REALTORS® Leadership Academy applications will open in early 2025. Having recently gone through the program, I highly recommend it, and it’s a great opportunity to get involved and become a leader.
