Realtors Champion Solutions to Housing at Day on the Hill

Every year, REALTORS® from across Tennessee convene at the State Capitol for the annual Day on the Hill, meeting with lawmakers to advocate for issues impacting the real estate industry and highlight the important role REALTORS® play in strengthening their communities.

Just last month, I joined hundreds of colleagues from across the state for this effort and was reminded of the importance of having a seat at the table and using our collective voice to promote solutions to one of the most pressing issues facing Tennesseans today: housing.

Whether it’s increasing supply, enhancing affordability or protecting property rights, REALTORS® continue working alongside leaders at the local, state and national level to help make homeownership more attainable. Advocacy is not about politics, it’s about ensuring the people who live and work in our communities have a voice in decisions that shape where and how they live.

Here in Nashville, we’ve seen firsthand the impact of collective advocacy. In 2024, Greater Nashville REALTORS® helped support the passage of Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s Choose How You Move initiative, creating dedicated transportation funding for the first time in our city’s history. Since then, new transit improvements and programs like the Journey Pass have demonstrated how thoughtful policy can strengthen communities and expand opportunity.

On the state level, REALTORS® are focusing on several key issues that limit unnecessary regulation, keep costs down for property owners and ensure consumers have greater access to homeownership opportunities. By bringing real-world insight from the front lines of the housing market, REALTORS® help lawmakers better understand how policy decisions impact buyers, sellers and communities across Tennessee.

These efforts are only possible because of the dedication of REALTORS® across the state and nationwide who believe deeply in the power of homeownership. When professionals come together, share their expertise and advocate for practical solutions, they help create meaningful progress.

Advocacy is not a one-day event, it is an ongoing commitment to shaping a stronger future for our communities. Whether the conversation is about transportation, housing supply, or tax policy, REALTORS® will continue to bring practical solutions to the table and work alongside leaders at every level of government to help keep Tennessee a place where homeownership is attainable and communities can thrive. When we show up together, speak with one voice and focus on solutions, we help move our state forward.
